Perennial is a self-written digital poetry chapbook that explores memory, place, and the passage of time through a series of summer-themed poems. Designed as a visual narrative, the book shifts across years and location, using color, layout, and illustration to enhance emotional tone.

PROCESS

For Perennial, I had a clear creative vision of using a floral aesthetic due to the book's title. During sketching, I drew directly over reference photos to experiment with composition, testing different orientations for the cover flowers and text layout. For the section dividers, I decided to go for a minimalistic design that marked each time period without competing with the poetry itself, moving away from a postcard-style idea I had that felt too busy. For the chapter openers, I drew from bold and bright, storybook-inspired references for my mood board and applied summery graphics and colors that gave each section its own distinct feel. Designing the accompanying website came more easily after the book design was finished. I used the same floral graphics to create a visual cohesion for both. Working within the platform I chose’s limitations pushed me to use the graphics more intentionally and sparingly, which ended up aligning well with the site's core purpose of directing visitors to download the book.
