Waves is a conceptual aquarium identity system designed to capture the vibrancy and calm of marine life through bright ocean-inspired colors, organic shapes, and sea-inspired gradients. The design emphasizes irregular strokes and rounded forms.
PROCESS
For Waves Aquarium, I developed a full visual system centered around sea animals, drawing from a color palette of blues, greens, and oranges that I saw from my references when moodboarding. While finding inspiration was simple, the real challenge was translating my sketches, mostly based around jellyfish and shells, into icons that balanced detail with readability for a variety of audiences. My initial designs lacked vibrancy and felt stylistically inconsistent with one another. After instructor feedback, I increased color saturation and added strokes across the icons to create visual cohesion and unite the icons in my system. With the icons finalized, designing the mockups was a lot simpler. I built two example frames of an aquarium companion app that allowed visitors to learn more about the animals they encounter, integrating the icons into a clean interface that had minimal changes from sketch to final.
