This project is a 10 second typographic motion identity created in Adobe After Effects, inspired by the visuals of 1950s television, specifically the TV Show Bewitched.
PROCESS
I set out to create a 1950s-style motion identity that balanced nostalgia with my own style. Having this clear idea and reference helped with moodboarding and storyboarding, since many design elements of that time shared visual similarities. My biggest challenge, however, was making sure transitions flowed naturally into one another. Initially, I explored a more theatrical animation concept of curtains opening to reveal my name, but after feedback, I shifted to a design built around lights, with my name appearing as stagelights that flash to reveal my full title card. In early iterations, I focused on establishing the basic sequence, though some transitions, like the shift from distant to close-up stagelights, felt abrupt. I addressed this by having the lights in the second scene rise from below in sync with the first scene's lights ascending, creating a more fluid transition. In my final iteration, I introduced a 50s-style fade between sequences, increased the spread and adjusted the color of the lights, staggered my name lights so they came on at different intervals, and added a more dynamic and playful background.
